About Te Rā O Hokianga
The desire for a North Hokianga community centre and newsletter was discussed from August 2019 by Bruce Hudson, Jackie Davidson and Delvene (Dee) Morrissey. Initially the concept was a newsletter for the 'Herald Building Group', though it quickly became apparent that there was a benefit to have a newsletter to serve the wider North Hokianga community.
In late 2019 the newsletter idea became independent to the 'Herald Building Group', benefiting the wider North Hokianga community by:
- reporting and documenting North Hokianga community news, issues and plans
- supporting new and existing community efforts
- documenting the enormously rich North Hokianga history since the arrival of Kupe
- the print version being delivered to every household in RD1 and RD2 of North Hokianga, and therefore reaching people who do not have any or easy access to the internet
- putting people in touch with one another via events and free classified advertisements (Jobs, Work Wanted, For Sale, Accommodation, Real Estate)
- mentoring people with publishing / journalism / communication.
